My friend is building a house from scratch.

She’s learning everything from loans to settlements to lighting, and what’s really draining her is the DECISION MAKING.

All her decisions are important. There’s a lot of money at stake, and there’re consequences and permanency if you say yes or no to something in the process.

She feels way out of her depth, and from all this I wondered:

What would happen if we taught students from an early age how to make decisions WITH consequences. If they’re part of a project that actually impacts the community, or are tasked to help someone in their neighbourhood.

What if in a maths class, students are actually required to collaborate with architects to work out dimensions of houses - and to witness what can go wrong if your measurements aren’t correct?

Students need to learn HOW to make decisions. They need actual responsibility, and to deal with loss and consequences.

It’s essential for the real world, so better start early.
