An Active Process
‘“Bernard Shaw once remarked: “If you teach a man anything, he will never learn.” Shaw was right. Learning is an active process. We learn by doing. So, if you desire to master the principles I am sharing on this page, do something about them. Apply them at every opportunity. If you don’t you will forget them quickly. Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind.’
- Dale Carnegie (How to win friends and influence people)
1936... Carnegie wrote this principle nearly 100 years ago. We have no excuses, it’s common knowledge and we’re still ignoring it!
Learning is such an active process, and to teach AT students (which is the norm in schools) leads to the disengagement, boredom and forgetfulness that you see everyday.
The only way for content to stick is if we USE the information often. If not, then what’s the point? Our brain ain’t got space to waste.
If I learn theory without application, I am a trivia contender.
If I learn theory AND apply it into practice, I am a learner.
