If you’re anything like me, making small decisions can seem like life or death.

*Looks at menu, starts sweating*

“Sh-should I get the burger or the scrambled eggs?”

Decision making can be a nightmare, and the only reason for that is because of these fears:

“What if I don’t like it in the end?”

“What if I made the wrong choice?”

The thing is, we don’t want to experience the consequences of a choice, and that’s fair if the choice is a BIIIIIG one. If it requires lots of planning, then you better make sure you do that.

But for ‘low-stake’ decisions (ie unimportant decisions with minor consequences), the more we think about them, the more time we waste.

SO WHAT TO DO?

Download a ‘yes or no’ app on your phone.

Each time you have a ‘HMM should I do X or not?”, consult your phone and whatever answer is the answer you’ll take.

You: “Should I get the bacon?”

Phone: “dw I gotchu, GET.THAT.BACON.”

(problem solved)

Suddenly the choice becomes a hell of a lot easier. I CANNOT STRESS HOW GENIUS THIS IS.

This was inspired from the podcast episode ‘Science of Success: Defeat FOMO & make more confident decisions’. Patrick J McGinnis also mentions the strategy of looking at your watch/clock - if the big hand is facing the left then it’s a ‘yes’, and ‘no’ for the right.

Happy decision making!
