The fear of failure
This is a juicy topic.
We’ve all fallen for it. That subtle yet deadly whisper of ‘you’re most certainly going to fail’, ‘why even try’ or ‘just don’t do it’.
This is a tad different from my previous post ‘I don’t feel like it’ - http://35.244.94.40/i-dont-feel-like-it/. Where it is predominantly the lack of motivation that prevents action.
While they do feed off each other, this fear of failure is pervasive. It’s the roots that nourish ‘I don’t feel like it’ or ‘but i’m ‘happy’ where I am’. It teaches us to stay within our boundaries, that if we tread into unknown waters, we’re surely going to face the consequences.
It’s what has stopped me from putting myself out there in the past. It’s still what stops me from taking a chance and simply leaping.
But I keep hearing time and time again, that what creates success is the ability to embrace failure. That the resilience developed from failure ultimately leads to more daring, risky but overall successful work.
Like ‘i don’t feel like it’, there’s just no effective, easy way to overcome this. It’s again, holding your breath and taking a plunge. It’s something I am practicing over and over to desensitise from (if that’s even possible).
I’ve had to fight with my inner fearful dialogue. It’s strong, it’s loud, it can dictate what you do and do not do in life.
But only if you let it.
